A series of reading worksheets that help students understand the traditions of Diwali.

Diwali is a harvest festival that got its start in the country of India. It's like the American Thanksgiving Day with a sprinkle of New Years on top. It is a closely followed and celebrated holiday for Jains, Hindus, and Sikhs. Each day of the celebration has its own tradition. Usually most families will prepare for the festival weeks ahead of time. The first day is usually an observed shopping day followed by a home decoration day. The third day is where most gather with family and friends to watch fireworks. On the fourth day husbands and wives exchange gifts. On the fifth day siblings spend a great deal of time together.
