One of the best ways to develop and demonstrate number recognition and the ability to count in sequence is to count objects and express them as a written numeral. Counting the number of items in a set is a great way to display to learn to group numbers of items. Another great idea as a warmup to this activity is have a die ready and have children roll the die and write the number. When they master the numbers one through six, add a second die and roll the pair of dice using the same technique. This section really concentrates on building observation skills. You will be given a set number of images that you will need to count. Place the number of images in the box to right. We start with a series of the same image and then we move to adding new objects that aren't completely similar and in some cases are not related at all. Each sheet contains a number of different picture tokens for the student to count.
These lessons and activities will help your elementary aged students learn and practice how to count and write down their answers by adding up different types of every-day objects they will easily recognize. The objects are recognizable to students and they are colorful. Since not all of us have access to a color printer or we cannot make copies in color, we have optimized these to also print well in grayscale. Make sure to print preview prior to completing your copies.
