The following worksheets will teach your students how to divide whole numbers by a fraction.

Students will find a fraction of a whole number. You will often find that you will need to complete this operation when it comes time to hit higher level algebra. It really helps students to think of fractions in percentage form when practicing this skill for the first time. The quick around this, is convert the fraction to a decimal and then multiply that by the whole number. We really do not need to expose students to that until they are ready for physical science. Student answers may be whole numbers or mixed numbers.

How do you find the fraction of a number? Fractions are numbers that represent a portion of the whole numbers. The proper fractions where the denominator is greater than the numerator represent values between 0 and 1. Then there are improper fractions where the denominator is smaller than the numerator, and they represent values greater than 1. There are many instances where you have to calculate the fraction of a whole number. These can either be calculating discounts, percentages, or when evaluating the trends in the graphs. To calculate this on your own, you just have to multiply the fraction with the whole number. Consider you have to calculate one-fourth of 5 kg meat. This is how you can do it: 1/4 × 5 = 5/4 = 1.2 kg. These worksheets explain how to find the fractional parts of numbers. Students also practice ordering fractions from least to greatest.
