What Are the Operation Rules of Addition? Order of operation with respect to addition - Basics - Addition is the basic method for arithmetic, and we can easily simplify it. Addition combines two quantities into one quantity or sum. For instance, you have 5 packets of chocolates and 3 packets of toffees. You have to make a gift for your friend. So, you will combine both packets in one box as a gift. By wrapping the two, you have on packet of 8 items. Mathematically, we will represent it like this; 5 + 3 = 8. Operation rules with negative numbers - These rules are corresponding to the addition of two positive numbers. For example; (-3) + (-5) = - 8. According to the rule, combine the two negative numbers into one greater magnitude. If you are adding positive and negative numbers, you can solve the problem with negative values by subtracting positive values. For example; 8 + (-3) = 8 – 3 = 5.Combine a credit of 8 with debt of 3 then, the answer of a total credit will be 5. You will get a negative answer when negative number has a greater magnitude. (-8) + 3 = 3 – 8 = - 5
This is a really potpourri of problem types. All of the problems focus on the use of integers in expressions and word problems. In many cases you will be given a math sentence and asked to summarize that sentence as an expression. In some cases you will solve complex tasked math problems. You may also take those word problems and write equivalent expressions for them. Your students will use these activity sheets to review working with the rules of addition. Questions cover absolute value, adding positive and negative numbers, converting word problems into expressions, and more.
