The kindergarten level is a unique one because students come from all types of backgrounds in education. is often helpful to make the walls memorable by either presenting it with a chant, song, story, or a rhyme. I also like to encourage kids to put their own stamp on individual walls. You can achieve this a number of different ways. It could be as easy as having students present the wall to the class and have them say a sentence with one of the words. It is more impactful if the teacher writes the sentence. I also like to have students tell a story about their life that includes the word. Once students attach some form of emotion to a word, it tends to stick with them more. Word Walls at this level are an important part of the day. Most preschool and this level their use is essential to most teachers. It is a great way to learn new vocabulary and pronunciation of those words. They are used to showcase the words that are relevant. I have seen teacher add a new word wall each week. I have also seen where teachers start the year with every word in front of the kids. Believe me, both forms of teacher thinks that their method is best. I'd say to use the method that best suits your students and teaching style.
The first series of kindergarten walls just indicate common sentence level vocabulary in alphabetic order. As you pan past that first group, we move on to more expanded words that new readers may have some difficult with. You will have some students where this is their first time with regular instruction and others that have been working with words for a while. So you will need to adjust to each kindergarten group every year. Using these printables will develop help your students learn words quickly and also gives them a little independence when putting together thought patterns.
