A printable set of word cards for grade 2 instructors to cut out and display in the classroom.

Below you will find printable word walls that target vocabulary terms that leveled for 2nd grade students. At the 2nd grade level we start to see students looking for word walls, but at the same time, out growing word walls as their brains are ready to store and access more information. They are getting use to using the word walls and relying on them a bit, but they are also looking to slowly express their independence. Students start to learn from flashcards and simple rote learning on their own. When first enter 2nd grade they are starting to break away from the use of word walls and just sight words in general. This is because second graders, that are on grade level for reading, begin to be able to us sentence context to determine the meaning of vocabulary words. They can always expand their core vocabulary library from the use of dictionaries and thesauruses, but the skills are in place so that they do not need those crutches.

Common 2nd Grade Word Wall Words

To build up a base for a kid so he can write eloquent and out-of-the-box pieces of literature, it is important to work on their vocabulary skills. Vocabulary building in young kids plays a vital role in the future. The minds of the young kids are more adaptable to the new words, and they are curious to learn new things at that age. This makes it a perfect time to embed something new.

Word walls are the best visual learning tools for classrooms; even if the children are taking a break, there is a 70% chance that students might look at the wall every 3 minutes. A word wall is a list of words put together with new vocabulary that a grader should know by the end of the year. It will work more efficiently if the words are replaced every two months.

To help you with the list of new vocabulary for the 2nd-grade word wall words, we have skillfully created a list that includes words from all the basic subjects taught in the class. To make it clearer, we have categorized them here in alphabetical order. We suggest decorating the wall and making it look attractive to the students.

You may need to explain the words and even have them write them within sentence to ensure that they have a good handle on their meaning. The two words that come up often are: stretched and wrinkled. Students do not really get too involved with clothing at this age, for the most part. Having an old sweater or shirt can always help them quickly understand this. With this set of vocabulary students begin to take in relative directions and new understanding of the world that is around them. This is a very interesting age.
